Volunteers are a key component of HCHC’s work to support and empower residents. Volunteers bring diverse skills, ideas, energy, and life experience, which enrich the social services program and expand the opportunities available to residents.

HCHC has a number of annual initiatives that provide volunteer opportunities for the community.

Every June, HCHC collaborates with Scholastic Books for our Books, Backpacks and Bright Futures Annual Book Fair. Volunteers are needed to help children select books and set up their accounts on a computer for the summer reading challenge.
Every August, we organize an annual Back-to-School event to make sure all HCHC children residents have the supplies they need for the upcoming school year. Volunteers may be interested in preparing fully stocked backpacks and distributing them to HCHC’s children.

HCHC’s Emergency Food Pantry is open every Thursday and provides bags of food to HCHC residents and the community at large. Regular volunteers pick up food, sort food into bags and distribute to HCHC residents and the community at large every week.
Every November, HCHC hosts a Fall Family Feast sponsored by The Playhouse Group where every household in attendance receives a 15-lb turkey plus all the fixings. Volunteers are welcome to come and help during the Fall Family Feast.

If you are interested in any of these activities, or if you would like to provide an activity or workshop for residents, please contact Consuelo Lopez at 323-454-6204 or email clopez@hollywoodhousing.org.
